Makalala
Makalala is an orphanage centre located in Mafinga, Tanzania which currently takes care of 20 orphan or abandoned kids aged between 1 and 16 years old.
Makalala’s orphanage centre was founded in January 2006 by Malaika, an Italian woman who at that time was living in Mafinga and wanted to help young vulnerable kids, especially those who were orphans due to their parents passing away because of HIV/AIDS.
Inspiring futures
Since its foundation the orphanage centre has made an outstanding work providing a safe space for the kids and covering their basic needs such as food, water, clothing, sleep and shelter.
Provided Makalala offers a safe space for the children and knowing that all their basic needs are covered, we want to take a step forward in order to inspire their futures. To achieve this we, want to obtain funds that will enable us to help the children in a variety of ways:
Education
As it stands all our kids go to public schools where the level of education is quite basic and most of the lessons are in Swahili. As a next step, we want to take all the kids to private schools where they will be able to receive better education, study in English, and ultimately, unlock all their true potential.
Preventive healthcare
Nowadays our kids only receive medical treatment only when an issue comes up. However, we want to develop a preventive healthcare provision where the kids receive regular medical check-ups in order to prevent the development of health conditions or diseases whilst promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Counselling and psychological support
The kids in the orphanage centre come from different vulnerable backgrounds. The Mafinga area is heavily hit by HIV/AIDS and most of the kids lost their parents due to this terrible disease. Others were terribly abused since a young age and others were simply abandoned due to financial constraints of their families. We want to provide regular psychological support so the kids can heal wounds from the past and can learn how to manage their own emotions and feelings as they grow into the adult world.
Life skills training
We want to help the kids through the provision of life skills program so they are well prepared for adult life. Whether it is basic first aid, cleaning, cooking, money management, just to name a few, we want to make sure kids will be self-sufficient when they grow an eventually move away from the orphanage.
Leisure
There are multiple benefits in developing hobbies for children. Hobbies help them express their own personalities and are a powerful learning tool. Whether it is playing sports, listening to music, painting, etc. we want to provide kids with the right context to enjoy their free time.
